Introducing Dave and Joan Doiron
Dave: I'm a lifelong resident of Northeastern Connecticut, also known as "The Quiet Corner" because of its predominant small towns and rural character. I was raised in Danielson, a small town that was a wonderful place to be a kid in the 1950s and '60s. I graduated from the University of Connecticut (UConn) in 1974, earning a BS with a double major in statistics and consumer studies. After several years in public service, I returned to UConn and earned an MBA in 1980. I then began my career in computers, working in the world of corporate mainframe computers as a software engineer and Information Systems Analyst for nearly 20 years. With the advent of the personal computer and online Bulletin Boards, I entered the world of online communication, collaboration and file sharing. The advent of the Internet and the Web was like handing a guy who's been driving a Chevy Nova a new Corvette! I left the corporate world in 1998 and began my own business creating and marketing Web sites. It has given me the chance to combine my business background with my artistic and analytic interests and talents. I recently retired, still maintaining my commitment to current clients and doing pro-bono website work. Joan: I am originally from Lancaster, PA, the "Heart of Pennsylvania Dutch Country". I taught physical education classes (and some health classes) and coached several sports at E. O. Smith High School from 1978 until my retirement in 2010. I remain active timing & scoring games, teaching American Red Cross courses and volunteering for Special Olympics, the American Cancer Society and music ministry at prisons, Natchaug Hospital and at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. (I sing and play guitar with 3 different liturgical music ministry groups.) Joan is an unofficial music director at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Storrs, at UConn, where she's been active since 1979 (and works her butt off for the 10:15 am mass music). Dave had been involved in music and liturgical ministry at St. Thomas, beginning in 1970. He left St. Thomas in 2010 and now worships at St. Mark's Episcopal Chapel.
